Kingsbridge Leisure Centre
The architects decided to involve local children
in designing images for the tiles in this swimming pool, both in
the pool tank, pool surrounds and changing area. They approached
local schools and organised a competition.
The resulting images had charm, many were dramatic
and had a strong impact on the pool area.
The designs were reproduced as exactly as possible.
The texture and colour of crayons, pencils, felt tip pen and paints
were carefully copied to preserve the character and charm of the
originals.
The competition was much more successful than either
the clients or architects could have envisaged and the bespoke designs are admired by
all users of the leisure centre (Pools).

Burgess Park, London
The 'Art in the Park' project was a subway refurbishment.
We worked with a community based art group who involved the local
residents at the beginning of the project.
Keeping to budget was important but by becoming
involved in the project from the beginning, decisions were constantly
made that maintained the design integrity and kept the project to
budget.
By acting as consultants, we enpowered the residents
with a basic understanding of the design, artwork and printing process
so that they were able to contribute to the project in an effective
way.
Since its completion vandalism has been reduced.
The community designed and created the space and they now maintain
and protect it (Subways).
